This is the sophomore release from Swedish band Allt, who received a decent amount of hype after their debut, 2024’s From The New World.
I didn’t hear that release, and after hearing this, I have zero desire to. I can only imagine this is a departure from that debut, because this is yet more soulless, generic, overly processed slop from a ‘Progressive Metalcore’ band who are neither progressive nor hardcore. If you enjoy bands like Invent Animate and Imminence, there’s a chance you will enjoy this far more than I did. But this type of sterile, overly digitized, djenty-riffs-that-barely-sound-like-guitars metalcore with light ethereal electronics has been done before by better other bands and it’s not a flavour I have any appetite for.
Allt present this approach now with 10% extra Linkin Park worship! Complete with whiny, angsty vocals and some nu-metal era hokey bravado rapping and disc-scratching on lead single “Omerta”. Many moments through this record feel like an intentional move to walk in the footsteps of bands like Bad Omens and grab some of that sweet LP nostalgia fandom, moving from the sweaty tents to festival main stages.
Fellas – put down the laptops and stop trying to over-engineer a sound, and instead try writing an actual riff or two.
